Rules of the sport of fencing

Fencing is a traditional sport and is based on the rituals and rules of fighting with swords, and some compare it to a game of chess, but using muscles. The fight includes two competitors, each trying to score a touch on the other with one of the fencing weapons, which are the fluorite, the saber, and the father.

fencing history:

Fencing was known as a form of fighting and was practiced in ancient times even before the birth of Christ. The clearest example of its existence is some of the discoveries of evidence of its practice in the temple of Medinet Habu near the city of Luxor in Egypt before 1190 BC. Also, fencing was practiced as a training in fighting in several civilizations throughout the ages, such as the Chinese, Japanese, Persian, Babylonian and Greek civilizations.

As a sport, fencing appeared either in the fourteenth or fifteenth century and Italy claims the primacy of its practice, while Germany claims that it is the first, where the masters of fencing founded the first guilds, the most important of which was Maxbrüder Frankfurt in 1480. In 1570, the French Henri Saint Didere named the basic movements in fencing, most of which are still in use today. After that, sword fighting and duels became commonplace in the period between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. The duelists used a range of different weapons such as clubs and swords in these fights. These confrontations were bloody and sometimes ended with the death of one of the duels.

Three major developments in the seventeenth century led to the advancement of fencing and its spread as a type of sport, the first of which was the development of a lightweight type sword used in fencing training, and its end was not pointed or hooked, and sometimes coated with a certain material in order to prevent the possibility of serious injuries. Shortly after that, this weapon was called fluorite. The second development that led to the enhancement of the progress of fencing is the great development that occurred in a set of laws that specified certain areas of the body to be the target when fencing. Finally, the invention of the wire mesh mask to protect the face greatly helped the spread of fencing as a safe sport that does not pose any danger to its practitioners.

fencing events:

Three types of weapons are used in international fencing competitions: the fluorite, the abayeh, and the saber (Arabian sword). The fight will be held on a floor designated for this sport, with a specific area, 14 meters in length and 1.5 meters in width. The contestants are also connected to electronic devices through wires and special clothing. These electronic devices are intended to score points in the event of a solicitation.

There are individual competitions for each of the three fencing events, and in team competitions, one team consists of three fencers, each one of whom is matched by a fencer from the opposing team.

Olympic game:

Fencing is one of the few sports that was adopted before the eighties of the twentieth century, the issue of professionals, and in fact the Olympic laws, which were written by Baron Perry de Coubertin (founder and second president of the International Olympic Committee) stipulated that it is possible for fencing professionals - who were called masters at the time - To participate in the Olympics. Indeed, the two Olympics of 1896 and 1900 saw masters fights with fluorescence efficacy.

The year 1896 marked the beginning of fencing's entry into the world of the Olympic Games, and it has continued since then, as is the case with a few sports, by proving its presence in the subsequent tournaments. On the other hand, women's fencing did not enter the Olympic program until 1924. In the Olympic Games at the present time, men compete in the form of individual duels and others in which the fencer meets one after the other, which is a squad, using one of the three types of swords, which are the fluorite, the abeh, and the saber (also called the Arab sword). But women's duel is limited to the use of fluorite and papyrus in individual and team duels. It is reported that the first practice of his father women was held in the Olympic Games in 1996 in Atlanta.

Each player has his tasks that provide him with security and safety ... such as a white padded protective suit, a mask and a glove.

The matches will be held on a field made of insulating metal with a length of 14 meters and a width of two meters.

There is an electric device that helps the referee, where a red or green lamp is lit when the touch is correct, through an electric wire attached to the blade of the sword, and it passes under the fencer’s protective clothing, with a thread hanging from behind the player and connected to the electric referee.

This sport of fencing requires qualities and abilities that a fencer should have, such as: speed, skin, agility, neuromuscular compatibility, flexibility, willpower, accuracy, honesty and intelligence.

Some believe that fencing is dangerous... but the reality is that it is less dangerous than many other sports.
